The North King Country Health Workforce Development

The North King Country Health Workforce Development Group had recently undertaken the development of a strategy for the recruitment and retention of health workforce to the area.

Based on input from local stakeholders and review of successful intiatives nationally and internationaly, a number of strategies were developed for short and medium term implementation. These strategies are grouped into six categories - Recruitment, Retention, Back to work, Health Careers information, Training options for school leavers and Support for tertiary students.

It is expected that many of the short term strategies will be implemented during the first half of 2009, supported by a grant from the Ministry of Health Rural Innovation Fund.
