POSTGRADUATE

What is the Rural Waikato Health Scholarship?

For many health practitioners from rural and remote Waikato, lack of financial support can be a major obstacle to ongoing professional development.

However those interested in further professional development can now receive assistance to overcome the financial hurdles through the New Zealand Institute of Rural Health's Rural Waikato Health.

Scholarship Programme

The programme is a regional scheme providing Waikato Health practitioners with scholarships worth up to $5,000 to assist with expenses of training and development.

Origins of the Programme

The aim of the programme is to increase the number of rural health practitioners who undertake professional development activities.

The scheme has been developed in response to research that showed rural practitioners are far more likely to stay in rural practice if they have access to ongoing professional development.

The programme is part of the Waikato District Health Boards rural strategy to improve access to quality health care in rural and regional Waikato.

Who is Eligible?

Rural Waikato based practitioners including practice managers, nurses, doctors, allied health professionals and practitioner spouses (special conditions).

Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.
